What are some of the best laptops out there? It has to have at least half a gig of memory, and a Pentium Chip or AMD...something. No Celeron. CD-RW for sure, DVD-R is a maybe but not high on priority. Built in wireless and at least a 60 gig HDD. Anything comes to mind right away? And of course durability.

For a good value look at the Dell 600m. I have the latitude version, the D600, Rogue has the D800, the widescreen. He has the DVD-R, I have the CDRW/DVD combo. I have 802.11A/B/G and a pentium M processor. you can get 80 gig'ers in them I think, and up to 2 megs of memory. There are good video card options too.
If you wanna spend another 1000 check out the T40. The Emachines 6805 (don't laugh) is a HUGE hit on www.hardocp.com and their forums. It'* cheap, but has TONS of computing power, and lots of options.
Why all the ram? 1 gig is only needed for games and some intense 3d modeling really, and in both cases you'll want a big *** video card for either.
