i gave mine a 9... the only repair on mine other than schedualed maintanence that wasnt caused by the lack of schedualed maintanence was the harmonic balancer. my mom has a 2000 impala with a 3.4v6 she has only had to replace the battery. my dad has a 98 chevy venture minivan with a 3.4v6 no problems. my parents have also owned many chevy celebrity station wagons in the past, one had a starter go bad and 2 had an alternator go bad problems. my bro has a 94 chevy caprice with a 4.3v8 no problems. my other bro has a 2000 chevy malabu with a 3.1v6 it had an engine nock when we got it, but we replaced the engine with a used one no problems since. my other bro has a 89 chevy caprice with a 5.0v8, no problems (he knows its more reliable than his 2 toyotas which are both newer 1 less than 5 yrs old). my sister has a 2002 impala with a 3.4v6 had to replace intake manifold gasket and passkey system. my sister used to own a chevy berretta (dunno the year) with a 3.1v6 no problems. my other sister used to own a chevy berretta (dunno the year on that one either) with a 3.1v6 no problems.

99 have had the normal issue...Upper intake manifold and lower intake gaskets. The only oddity was the heater core went out. The only history I have on the previous owner is that it was a GMAC leased car. I didn't know that when I bought it from the stealership, because it was so clean. It'* been an excellent car and has 99K. I'll get another 150K out of it easily. Still gets almost 70 psi of oil pressure!

My 93 that I recently sold was another gem. Not one thing went wrong with that car. Should have never sold it. Had 185,000 when I sold it. At 180,000 I drove it to Kansas City over Labor Day weekend. 2,500 in 3 days....ran awesome! Only issue I ever had with it was the exhaust pipe bolts from the flange to the manifold got crappy and loosened up. I had to replace those bolts to quiet it down. A/C didn't work when I bought it (don't care...it'* MI). And, the passenger side front hub went out. No biggie there either. It had 55 lbs. of oil pressure!

My 87 was definitely an eye sore (rusted to hell). Paid $400 for it at 160K, finally died at 228K. Fuel pump went out. When I went to change it everything was so rusted and brittle that it was a disaster unbolting straps, etc. Broke a brake line by accident, it needed tires, a fuel pump, head liner, would leak water from the windshield and the doors, tranny was slipping, bad oil leak (from the pan gasket). So, we junked it. It was every part of a beater, but a damn reliable one at that!! Junk yard gave me $50 for it. Total investment...$350 for 68K miles of transportation!!

IMO, it'* all in how the previous owner took car of the car, and how you take care of it. I don't beat on my cars at all, but I do drive them...a lot! Average about 35K annually. They are meticously maintained and never driven hard! I just rely on them too much to have them broken down.

i voted 6, it hasnt failed me ever, but ive had to put a decent amount of $ into maintinance to keep it that way

Only reason that it gets a 9 is because I recently had to do $600 in brake work...the only reason it was so much is because thing you usually have to replace, needed to be replaced at the same time as the MC.

Other than that it has all been preventative except for the two alternators it has been through.

Mine'* pretty good, especially for one so old.

I have a 1983 Bonneville Brougham with 73k miles...

Past repairs
New plugs and wires
New air control valve
Three new exhaust valves (cheap)
Two new sets of tires
New brake pads

Needs:
New shocks (hence why the two sets of tires)
Fixed back bumper (i got rear ended by someone with no insurance)
Side scrapes fixed (damage from previous owner)
Fixed lifter tick
New coolant tank cap (oops )
Brakes all the way around

Some of this is damage from having sat for so long My car has NEVER left me stranded, and has always started. She'* done everything I've ever asked of her, and then some, and been all over the place.

Gave mine a 9. Although I've only had mine for about 7 months, it'* never given me any big headaches. Any repairs that were needed were driver induced (Never let a kid who grew up on manual transmissions try to power brake a car.) The only real complaint is that the rear fenders are starting to rust out, but considering where it came from, and where it'* at now, it'* no big suprise. A little weekend warrior project will fix it nicely. Overall, this car has been complimented on and recommended more than i ever expected, which says something.

Made one hell of a racket, felt like I lost about half power, but oddly, did NOT overheat.
Not sure how it would have fared had I pressed matters though, as I used as little accelerator as I could.

It'* strange, that time it dropped oil pressure for a few miles before it finally blew. This time around it just went from seemingly perfect running order to dead, with no indication of trouble.
