I live in a good part of town, but work in a bad part with a high crime rate and almost higher homocide rate . There are a LOT of shady people around and I just want to be prepared. I hope that I never have to use it. But I want to know that I can defend myslef or others if the need arises.

Pinky, the author was asking if anyone carried a CCW, not if you hated them or not.
I would like to have a CCW someday or at least own a gun

I got a permit....
Gunwise...just a basic 380...its designed to kill people at close range (self defense gun)
why? Because I can I guess....I like shooting anyway out in the country etc.....

I wouldn't call my neighborhood bad, it'* pretty nice in fact. But there is NO SUCH THING AS A "SAFE" PLACE. Not ever, not anywhere. "When seconds count, the police are mere minutes away."
I don't expect to use my pistol to defend myself. But I am able and willing to do so, if I'm forced to.

I just turned 21 about a week ago and I plan on getting my CCW very soon. I only have a .38 special for home protection right now. I plan on buying something else to carry but I'm undecided as to what at this moment in time.
I got a .38 special for the house and a special 3800 for the road!
Criminals expect to victimize helpless people; we shouldn’t have to be helpless. I have great respect for the police in my area but I know they can’t be expected to protect every person every minute of everyday. So as a citizen I would like to take the liberties I have and use them to protect myself.
I have an analogy of sorts; like how someone with a brand new reliable car may get coverage with AAA. They do it knowing that they might be out of gas in the middle of nowhere or have a flat they can’t fix.
Just like I maybe out in my low crime town while someone tries to rob me figuring everyone here feels safe so they have no reason to further protect themselves.
