I'm not sure I want to pay that. It'* not my primary connection. I have T3 at home, and the same at work, and not only that, but my wireless LAN from work actually reaches HOME at times. I live that close to hp.

I'll be using my former AT&T (now Cingular) Motorola V505 phone as a modem for accessing through an independent ISP. With a good connection, I should hit pretty high for dialup, eh?

I'm GSM.

Does your phone have an icon just to the right of the signal strength meter that looks like two arrows chasing each other? This indicates that you are at least in a GPRS area and the service is active on your account. GPRS is an intergral part of GSM service... like voice mail. I don't see why they're telling you you can't do what you want to do.

Do you already have a cable to connect your phone to the laptop?

I never thought I'd see the day when someone came into the store and say "My phone dosen't work... the camera [or other totally unrelated accessory to making phone calls] is broke".

It'* all about generating revenue though. How about being a fly on the wall at one of those brainstorming meetings. "How about this, Bob. We can provide a service that enables a customer to have sexual relations with another customer just by dialing *999. That should be good for $1.2 million annually."

I've considered DLing the Tmobile software for the IR link, but I always have wireless wherever i go. If there'* anything i'd want to sync with my outlook so my phone, palm, and both computers are connected.
/runs off to check.

$80!?!?! nm that.

$10 a month for unlimited transfer is nice, but will your Carrier bill you for minutes or data? That'* the only thing i'd worry about. GSM/GPRS can be faster then 56k as well. I believe it tops out in the 150ish kb/*

In the past when Circuit Switched Data was used, your minutes were being depleted. Not too bad with a free N & W plan. Cingular bills for data seperately by kb or MB. I believe most carriers are the same way unless they are still using CSD

But in my case, I won't be using Cingular'* data network. I'll be using a dialup ISP, and would be billed for the minutes as a voice call only. Which is free. I never use all my anytime minutes, and have free evenings and weekends.
