Depends. During mine they gave me a happy drug. Last thing I remember, I was lying face down on a table and the doc was telling me he was about to start.
Closed my eyes.....
opened em and I was sitting up in a chair with MrsCrzy across from me asking if I could feel my legs yet. They had went limp and numb (normal side effect according to doc) and no, I couldnt. Took another 30 before I could stand.
Doing it for pain relief from sciactia?

I had one when I was 13. They aren't bad at all. That was when I found out I have bulging disks, slight scoliosis, and stress fractures on the transverse process parts of one of my lumbar vertebrae. (they healed)
I've been keeping my stomach pretty tight for a while and it hardly ever bothers me.

Had one for knee surgery about 6 years ago. It wasn't bad, but I had the side effect called "spinal headache." The hole from the needle going into my spinal column didn't close on its own, so whenever I would sit up I would be internally losing a small amount of spinal fluid from my spinal column. It caused a massive headache and dizziness because the small leak was actually causing my brain to "sag" a little bit. They fixed it by taking a small amount of blood and injecting it into my spine. The blood coagulated and closed the hole, which instantly (and I mean instantly) alleviated the dizziness and headache.
I forget what the chances of spinal headache are, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just know that it'* a possible side effect and could cause discomfort if it happens. Easy to fix, though

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I have a few bulging discs and some other problems and the doctor feels the injection may help. I can say the oxycodone he has put me on makes the pain less bad but these fentanyl patches are a waste of money.

yeah, my mom has been through about 5 of those. and is on oxycontin as well. they only seem to give her very temporary relief. I am actually scheduled for some myself, I have 3 bulging discs, scoliosis of 30* and sheurmann'* kyphosis of 80* But I live my life on 500/5mg hydrocodone/Vicodin
