They are many different types of motors that went into the DSM triplets(Eagle Talon, Mitsibishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser) some are really bad, like the 1.6 liter 4 cylinder that went in the base model, the 2.0 liter DOHC motor is very strong.
Just saying you won't buy something because it is Japanese, European or whatever is stupid. Buy what you think is the best car for your needs at the time. All of the Japanese bashing that has been going on on this site has really started to bother me. Not all Japanese cars are rice in the bad sense and not all of them are crap. For the longest time, minus a few exceptions from Europe and the US, Japanese cars were the only good cars you could buy in the US. Just look at how many domestic manufactuered cars are still around from the 80'* compared to the number of Japanese made cars.
American cars just weren't very good for a long time and it has taken a long time for the US auto-makers to catch up. They still have a long way to go in some respects, for example I would never buy a compact made american car, but they are doing much better then they were 15 years ago.

No one has started bashing Japenese cars yet...I'm just saying that I would never buy one. I'm not saying you can't.
The only thing that is stupid is you telling other'* that they are stupid for not wanting a Japenese car.

Just be careful the book of lemons rated the 90-92 to be the worst years (not a bad car just bad years for that particular make), sounds like a good deal and they have tons of potential, an editor in one of my car magazines was bitching about mustags and how they are crap (i agree) anyways somebody wrote back slagging him saying with five grand onto their ford shitbox they could decimate any import that would cost the equivalent and the editors reply gave a few cars they would pick and use that money to build an awesome car and the the talon you are interested in was one of them so go for it but don't go to the dark (rice) side.

Check the transfercase. They are & always will be under recall. They can leak & lock up at speed on the highway. I'm on my 3rd right now.
Ask for recipts. The TB job can easily be screwed up if someone doesnt know what they are doing. The balance shafts can be out of phase(not good). Also make sure that they changed the waterpump AND the balance shaft belt.
Go to dsm.org & vfaq.com. There is TONS of info for you.
BTW the T/E/L'* are AMERICAN cars. They were not built in Japan. they were built in the good ol' US of A

LS1 as in Smalll block chevy( out of a C5 vette'), its supercharged & stroked to 383cid. 6 speed is out of a camaroZ28 & ford 9" rear end. HP is still unkknown, but est about 650..
Like i said though. I still have a few thousand miles on the car for warranty. Once that is up we are getting another car & the SSE is going under the knife.
Not much to show in pics right now. Just a heap of parts & tubing laying around my shop. Once the buildup begins. I'll give more info & pics.
