anyone know some good breeds in which i could find a great companion? i love rottie'*, pits, boxers and huskies but don't know too much the breeds in general. (I.E. health problems and such). the medium to large breeds are mainly what i'm looking for. any help or advice would be appreciated, of course.

For me, it'* all about the mutts. They tend to be freer of health problems in my experience.

Shepard Rottie X are nice.

Rottie and lab also work well. They have a good demeaner about them, and they dont get too large. Rotties get a bad name and they are wonderful dogs as is he lab.

Sissy'* a Pit Bull/English Bulldog, and we haven't had that many problems with her. She'* getting arthritis, but that'* just cause she'* old.

Boxers are good dogs too, somewhat hyper but Trainable.

Boxers are VERY trainable. You've all seen Mick and Bo (you never met Britney, my old female). You guys need to remember that Bo just turned 2 years old.

I'm on my third, and will never own another breed. Regardless of having been a breeder of another breed I loved. I've had:

4 adult Schipperke'*. 4 litters total.
Black Lab <-----least favorite of the bunch
Rott <-----great breed (especially if a boxer raises it) but takes alot of work.
Min Pin. Lots of attitude, takes alot of work
3 boxers. Any one of them was a better dog than any of the others.

Boxers are very trainable, loyal, protective, and predictable, but have TONS of character. They don't shed, they clean easily, and you can take 'em anywhere.

Two biggest faults? They fart more than other breeds. Funny when you're drunk though.
Short lifespan. 11-12 years is considered good.

I'm a big supporter of mutts. They usually need homes a lot worse, and often live longer.

Meet Evan. He'* a four-month-old mutt at the animal shelter I work at. He'* a cutie with a great personality (read: chick magnet dog). He'* energetic, but listens to commands.

There are lots of others out there like him that need good homes!

A bunch of good choices, but I also support looking at your local shelter. There are many young dogs, even puppies available and crosses can be very intelligent. I had a lab/std. poodle cross that was perfect and super smart.

I like boxers, a neighbor has one. My wife currently has an English Springer Spaniel that'* 1-1/2. Very smart and trainable, but high energy.
