Now, anyone with a sci calc punch it in. You can also use excel. Then post up the ansers you get. I still stick by my answer of 2. But you might be surprised at the answers we get. There'* a reason why this equation is seen a lot.

In that regard, it was a bad question to begin with as parentheses weren't placed where they needed to be in order to write it on one line. You can't come up with a good answer to a bad question.

Resolve brackets first to get 48/2 (12)
Then division on the left: 24 (12)
Therefore 24*12 = 288
BODMAS is the order of operations:
B Brackets first
O Orders (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
DM Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)
AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)
Depend on how the question is written.
48/2(9+3) yeilds 2
48/2*(9+3) yields 288
So without the implied multiplication the order of operations seems to be affected.

Come on Dan, dont disappoint me lol
Brackets first, thats correct
48/2(9+3)
48/2(12)
so what have you done now? you still have the brackets there
48/24 brackets are gone
now you devide
answer is 2
another way to prove you wrong
look at xtremerevolution. the (9+3) is supposed to be devided by, i dunno how did you bring it up to multiply

The answer is not 2 because yes pemdas shows how we need to go in order. But when it comes to multiplication and division you go in order from left to right.
So yes the 9+3 is done first but then the equation is done in order from left to right. 48 divided by 2 then that product multiplied by 12.
If you wanted the 48 to be divided by the rest of the equation needs to be in parentheses.as shown 48/(2(9+3)).
Remember don't over complicate things gentlemen. There is only one way to do math or our sciences would be in trouble.

the calc does from left to right regardless
proper writing of this equation is 48/[2(9+3)]
how do you solve a(b+c)
isnt it (ab+ac)? now if abc were numbers means you got rid of the equation which proves BEDMAS
is you divide 48/2 first then multiply that means you didnt get rid of the brackets.
