Actually no, it'* also 288. The equation is assuming, instead of a black and white. * takes precidence over /. A proper equation should not leave out a task. By doing so you introduce errors. Look it up. Both answers are correct.

You always solve the equation inside parentheses first.
The correct answer is 2.

PEMDAS.....Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.......order of operations.....2 is the only correct answer....Just had this in College Algebra last month (easy class)....

Resolve brackets first to get 48/2 (12)
Then division on the left: 24 (12)
Therefore 24*12 = 288
BODMAS is the order of operations:
B Brackets first
O Orders (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)
DM Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)
AS Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)
Depend on how the question is written.
48/2(9+3) yeilds 2
48/2*(9+3) yields 288
So without the implied multiplication the order of operations seems to be affected.
Then division on the left: 24 (12)
Therefore 24*12 = 288
