Welcome Bloodstripe! You need to fix your location, though. It should read "The Great Free State of Texas".. (I grew up just outside of Austin)

Thank ya'll for the warm welcome. And yes the title Bloodstripe refers to my time in the beloved Corps. I am a "detached" jarhead extraordinaire Wilwren did you serve a little time in Uncle *ams Misguided Children?
MOS95B...the ceremony that you are talking abut is referred to in the Corps as a "Pinning on" ceremony. They drive home your cheverons into your collar bone. And then you line up in the squadbay and you have 2 Marines that punch you in the shoulder, once you reach the end of the squadbay you go back again one more time. You go through about a total of 60 guys on either side of you punching your arm.
In the Marine Corps a Bloodstripe is the red stripe that goes down the side of a Marines Dress Blues. It was first seen on Marine uniforms in 1796. It was used off and on until uniform regulations made it standard on all NCO and Officer uniforms in 1859. It is rumored that the stripe represents the blood shed by Marines at the Battle of Chapaultepec in the war with Mexico in 1846.And your right about Texas...great place isnt it?
You will see a nice big SEMPER FI sticker on my back window of my Bonn.
Jeff
I am down south of you a little west of Houston
