If nothing else gentlemen, I will be a source of humor for your day. Having been suitably inspired to get my hands dirty, I decided to get to work. With Danthurs instructions, I heaed to the garage. Popped the hood, removed the plastic engine cowling, and proceeded to start the engine to check vacuum and boost control actuator. At this point, the problem became obvious. Something about the stationary belt laying beside the sc pulley seemed to point to the problem! Geez, did I feel like an idiot!! It is amazing that "visual inspection" ahd never occurred to me. Having heard the sc continuing to spin (due to routine air flow--obvious now) I never even considered the belt.
The belt was still intact, but a pulley had failed--apparently it just broke apart because it isn't even there. The "missing" pulley is the one just above the drive near the bottom. Now, it is a matter of finding a replacement pulley, figuring out how to remove and reinstall, and putting on a new belt (if I'm going to the bother, I'll replace the belt, too).
Comments on the pulley removal and replacement part spec (dia and material) are welcome.

Ha, that is pretty humorous. Also, that mileage is nothing to be scared of. The 2000 Regal I bought earlier this year had 153k miles when I bought it, and has 155k miles now. Runs perfectly.

I'm dealing with No. 9 from your diagram and I'll proceed to find the appropriate pulley at Advance Auto Parts. I've got a couple of pics -- an overall and a close-up of the offending/missing pulley--still not sure how to handle pics on this forum. Any suggestions on removing what is left? There isn't even a bolt head!??

If you search long enough, sometimes you can figure it out. I didn't have any idea what a torx bolt looked like. Wandering through the site, I saw Danthurs' pics on idler pulley replacement and figured it out. Will work on it tomorrow.

Ah, the sweet sound of an operational supercharger! My thanks to those who were my encouragers. While removing the bearing from the missing idler pulley, I actually found the original plastic one sitting in the undercarriage by the front nose.
For the record, the idler pulley is threaded normally (counter-clockwise to remove).
All reinstalled, runs smoothly with no squeals or whines.

Sometimes threads go 360 degree'* and that'* just fine with us. If someone on Staff here feels it'* needed to move a thread or copy a portion of it to it'* proper section, we do it with a smile. I expect Moderators here to be saavy enough to do it with a couple clicks. And I don't care how other Forums are.... a couple clicks isn't worth disrespecting someone, or chasing them off. We are all new to the Forum at some point and eeveryone makes mistakes from time to time. I myself suffered horribly under a former rude Administration, stuck it out, and stepped up to run it after it became so dysfunctional it actually went offline. Glad you appreciate my efforts and a great Staff who have helped me tremendously over the last couple years. Glad to hear you have the problem handled!
