New from New England...
Hello Everyone. I've been poking around the BonnevilleClub forum for the past week or so and love it! I own a transmission franchise and recently bought a 2000 SSEi from a customer who didn't want to spend $2300 to overhaul it. I paid $1000 and fixed it in our spare time. I LOVE this car! I don't know what the guy was thinking, but it is in great shape and everything works. So far, you have all been very helpful answering my questions. I'm a former Corvette owner and used to hang out at the CorvetteForum.com site. This is very similar. Keep up the great work!

Welcome. You're in the right place for Bonneville and car addicts. You're also in the right part of the country for one of the largest regional meets. What was wrong with the tranny?

If I remember right, it had a P1870 code: Excessive transmission slippage. When starting from a stop, there was a delayed engagement, followed by a bang. Also, when stopping, the transmission would also bang on the downshift.
Once opened, we found the clutches completely burned and glazed over. We also performed a complete transmission overhaul to include a valve body overhaul. The torque coverter was also replaced.

Sounds like the standard problems for a 12x,xxxmile 4T65E-HD. If you have it open ever again, check the splines on the fourth gear clutch shaft, they tend to wear out.
Anyway, Welcome to the Club!
Watch out for the CT/MA crew, they'll get you in trouble....
