Default Transmission

I have a '88 chevy 1500 with a 5.7L engine and a 700R4 transmission. The transmission case is broke around the mounting bolts on the passenger side. I want to know if I can transfer a 700R4 transmission out of a '94 chevy 1500 with a 5.7L engine.

I was told that they can't be swapped because the transmission electronics are different.

Can I transfer the transmission and the ECM from the '94 into the '88?

Or will the ECM not work with the '88 engine?

Can I transfer both the '94 engine and transmission along with the ECM into the '88 and make it work?

Your 88 5.7 is a standard issue 4bbl carbed 350. The 94 I believe is a computer controlled throttle body injected 350. The 94 trans might be a 4L60-E instead of the hydramatic version.

So if I transfer the engine and the ECM will that make the engine and the transmission work properly?

If the trans is a 4l60-e, it won't work in your chassis because your speedo is shaft driven and not electronic.
