Default Tahoe break lights stay on

Can anyone direct me to maybe an old thread that may have some insight into my issue with a 1999 Chevy Tahoe?

1...brake lights stay on;
2...engine does not turn off until release the brake pedal (after turning switch off of course), and;
3...left turn indicator works, but when turn right indicator on, makes a light "hum" and no indicator.
Note: the light issue transfers to my trailer lights too (if that makes any difference).

History: I had the brake switch (whatever it is called that allows to engage out of 'Park') replaced a few years ago, and I replaced the multi-function switch a few months ago. The symptoms above happened simultaneously to the best of my recollection.

Thanks,

SS

The two tail and center stop lamps stay on?

What happens if you remove the harness from the brake switch? If all the lights go out(all 3), you need a brake switch or it is out of adjustment.....

Could you be clearer on question #2?

When you turn the right directional on, the lights don't blink? Have you checked ALL THE BULBS? Do they ALL light up?

Regarding #1: I will try the harness. Haven't done so yet. Yes, all 3 brake lamps burn (sides and top); however, to be clear, the lamps are on only with vehicle running.

#2). Usually when I turn the ignition switch off upon parking, my foot is still on the brake pedal. I noticed the other day, with foot still on pedal, truck didn't turn off. I finally discovered that it was only after I released the brake pedal did the truck die...if I put foot back on quickly, it would resume idle.

#3). When I turn right indicator on, the dash lamp only lights up...no blinking. The hum comes from the dash somewhere...i am a little deaf, and hard to isolate. I guess I need to check my front and rear lamps. BTW, when I depress the hazard switch, both dash lamps blink (they did last week). Again, I need to verify what is going on with front and rear right turn lamps for I can't say for sure.

#1, funny thing is this only happens when the engine is running, and not when the key is off..... which means the brake pedal is adjusted ok, and there is nothing wrong with the switch? which doesn't make sense because if you step on the brake with the engine off, they should all light.....but whether running or not they should not be on.....do you have anything added to the vehicle like maybe a remote start or alarm system? When did this start? After you replaced the multifunction switch?

As far as #2 goes, with your foot on the brake, if you cycle the key to off, the engine should shut off......

#3, you need a new hazard switch......replace this first and see if it fixes either of your first two problems....call your local GM Dealer, and give them your VIN number to see if your vehicle qualifies for a recall on the hazard switch.....

Ok, let'* address #3)...new hazard switch: my hazard switch is an integral part of the multifunction switch which I replaced a few (2-3?) months ago. Everything ran fine til my issue started about 3-4 weeks ago (now that I am thinking about - I noticed "break lights on" on Good Friday). I bought the switch, which was ornery to replace, thru Carquest if that makes any difference.

Obviously I had to remove the ignition switch to remove the steering column housing if that has any significance. Actually, the break padel/ignition switch issue I noticed after lights. Could there be multiple issues coincidently going on...maybe?

Thanks for your time Tech II!

Oh, sorry, but pertinent. I bought the vehicle used at 85k/4yrs ago, and have not personally added anything to it. It looks like maybe something was added, but not sure what it may have been.

Now, I am going to blow your mind! You mentioned lights should come on with engine off....so I went and checked. They do indeed come on with engine off and stayed off even after cranked engine; HOWEVER, I decided to try right indicator switch...hum in dash; dash lamp on but not blink, front lamp on but not blink, rear light hard to tell bc break lamps are on. Hazards work dandily...how about that???

I know this is a lot. But decided to check lamps again after turned engine off after a minute. Lamps now are burning after turning only switch on.

The only difference last night was that I left my trailer lights hooked up. Of course I haven't always looked to see if lamps were burning b4 driving, but haven't driven it unless necessary.

Thanks

Default Update

So, I been working on electrical issue on 4Wheeler, and came out to Tahoe get something. Decided check rear lamps w ignition off. Depressed break pedal and my "rattlesnake" -as my Dad used to call it (open door buzzer)- went off and fuel pump came on. Let off, and they go off; depress come on...

Answer me this......

Vehicle running, try your right blinker.....light comes on in dash but doesn't blink, correct? Leave the blinker in the same position, now turn hazard on....now turn hazard off,,,,does right front blinker now work? If it doesn't, turn it off....turn hazard on, then off....now try right blinker, does it work?
