Hello everyone!! I sold my 2000 crv for 3 grand and bought a 94sierra with 116K on it my first truck!! Very stoked!!!! Hardly any rust the previous owner must've kept it inside(Wisconsin). I have a couple of questions about the rig and I want to keep her running as long as possible. The previous owner didn't have a maintenance record grrrrr, but it'* in great shape so I imagine he changed the oil regularly at least. I'll start with what I've done to it so far.
-spark plugs, wires, dis cap and rotor
-fuel filter, oil filter, trans filter, air filter
-front diff, rear diff, transfer case fluids
-replaced front and rear shocks, greased all the links i could find (drive shaft didn't have any too old? original?)
-new starter, battery and tires (battery made it 9 years!)
-new serpentine haven't installed it yet
1.) I haven't changed the coolant or the brake fluid. The truck doesn't overheat, is it really necessary? The coolant is green but does look a little brownish. I've heard these trucks having problems with intake gaskets. So leave it, put in the green stuff, or put in the new pink stuff?
2.)The truck had a rough time starting at times. I'd have to crank on it a good 3 seconds before it'd start to rumble. Then the starter went out, I replaced it but it still hasn't gone away. I replaced the fuel filter but could this be the fuel pump? any ideas causing a delayed start?
3.) The only leak on the truck is at the power steering pump. It'* not the worst but I'd like to get it fixed, can't tell if it'* a hose or a seal inside of it anyone have an idea how to identify the leak?
4.)I doubt the timing belt and water pump has been changed. How necessary is this at 116K, is it a DIY project?
I really appreciate the advice and any help provided! Trying to learn the everything I can about the truck and work on it myself. New to the site and I'll try to contribute and learn as much as I can thanks for all the help!!!
