How do you put a 2021 on Yukon into Neutral to town it if the engine wont start
Hi, I have a question that I can't find an answer to. How do you put a newer 2021 yukon or newer into Neutral to tow it if you can't start the engine. I have read the manual and it says nothing. I have seen tow companies just drag them onto flatbeds because they have no other way to get them on. There has to be a way to do it. I have checked putting the vehicle in accessory, that does not work. I tried putting it into service mode and that does not work either. I did see that if you put it into service mode and press 2H 5 times it will try to shift into neutral but goes back to the previous trans setting. Anyone have any info on this?
Thanks

Engine must be running to engage neutral. Once in neutral it can be turned off. The park pawl must have hydraulic pressure (aka engine on trans pump working) to release it.No power it needs a special tool. Dealer should have it as it is a dealer essential tool.
DT-52910 Manual Park Release Tool. Hopefully these tow guys start forking over the $181 for the tool.

key on engine off, put in neutral
doesnt need to be started for neutral
would probably kill the battery though
Id suggest yanking the driveshafts. That way, it cannot possibly be in drive to wheels, keys can be out the ignition and doors can be locked and whatnot.
but im 100% percent more stubborn than smart. I would be pulling driveshafts, personally.

To shift into N (Neutral):
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Shift the transmission to N (Neutral).
3. Shift the transfer case to 2 m.
4. Apply the parking brake and/or brake pedal.
5. Press 2 m five times in 10 seconds until the N (Neutral) graphic starts flashing in the instrument cluster. When the shift is complete, the graphic stops flashing. If the parking brake and/or brake pedal is not applied within 20 seconds, the transfer case will remain in the original state.
6. If the transmission is not shifted into N (Neutral) or the vehicle has not slowed to 5 km/h (3 mph) within 20 seconds, the transfer case will remain in its original state. This will be indicated in the instrument cluster.
Shifting Out of N (Neutral)
To shift out of N (Neutral):
1. Turn the ignition on with the engine off. See Ignition Positions 0 226.
2. Set the parking brake. See Electric Parking Brake 0 240.
3. Shift the transmission to N (Neutral).
4. Shift the transfer case to 2 m. Transfer case shifts out of N (Neutral) can only be made into 2 m. When the shift to 2 m is complete, the graphic in the instrument cluster will stop flashing. If the transfer case cannot complete a shift, the graphic will return to the previously selected setting.
With everything else in normal state (no service mode etc.) try this out, step by step, and report back.

Whatever happened to just pulling a mechanical lever and it actually did what it was suppose to?

Those were the days. Now the computers need to give it permission to do anything. I do like all the ratios though.

Guess its time to start stocking up on drivetrain parts for my truck so I can make it last another 20 years.
