Default 6l80 concern

Hello everyone, I’m new this site and trying to find out everything I can about this truck. It’* a 2011 Sierra 1500 with a 5.3l. My question for right now is about the transmission. It’* a 6L80. I’ve been reading about it and there seems to be a lot of problems with it. Starting with getting too hot and the torque converter. Should I really be concerned or has these problem just been blown out of proportion? Any other advice would be appreciated. It has 121,000 miles on it.

There were some problems for a while . . . let'* call them "teething issues", but most of that'* been long sorted out one way or another by now. Any automatic transmission can get too hot and/or have torque converter issues (if it has a torque converter, which yours does). If you've inspected this vehicle and test driven it and it seems okay, you might have good odds. I've driven plenty that were just fine, even one in a Penske box truck. I had one in a rental Silverado that only had around 10,000 miles on it and had noisy gears in first and third gears. Was that a bad one or was it abused by a previous customer? I had no way to tell.

I would suggest the following practices:

- Change the fluid and filter more often than the book says to
- If you're going to tow, add a big auxiliary transmission cooler between the hot cooler line and the existing cooler solution
- Don't do stupid stuff and beat it all the time

If you do these things, it will probably give you good service for a while.

"If" and "probably" because I'm on the far side of the Internet and only know a tiny bit about this vehicle.
