I was wondering also after the fly-by-wire reference you made. Sounded so 'military' since all our latest fighters are fly-by-wire. I was fixing to see where you were stationed in case we had been at the same bases....

It just was the term we used at the dealership when they stopped using throttle cables. I don't remember if it was what GM called it or if one of the guys came up with it.

FBW is a term used in the submarine community for the newest class attack submarines due to the types of systems used to control pitch and dive.

Anyway, I grabbed truck life by the (lug)nuts and did what needed done. I removed the Throttle Body and cleaned it. It had more carbon soot on both sides than a diesel tail pipe does. I took a can of B-12, some Q-Tips and a half dozen paper towels and got every grain of soot off I could. I can see day light through the throttle plate as well as the idler hole.

It runs like a dream and I can cycle through all gears at a dead stop with my foot on the brake, with not even a stutter.

A little piece of advice to anyone, because I like to learn things the hard way:
-The hoses on the bottom of the Throttle Body unit itself are NOT vacuum lines or anything of the sort. They are coolant lines. If you are brave enough to work on it after its a bit warm (like I did, not thinking about it), wear gloves AND crimp the line prior to pulling it off of that barb.
-I also recommend venting the expansion tank prior to.

I've always believed in learning from others mistakes, no matter how small. Hope this helps anyone out there thinking of cleaning the TB on a 2003 Sierra 6.0L.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
-Mike, MM1(SS)

Glad you got it figured out. I forgot about the coolant lines, GM stopped using them in the later model engines.

GM calls it "drive by wire".

We as vehicle destroyers in the Army call it, I wonder if it will make us crash. LOL

I'm with JW! Clean the throttle body. Remove it from the intake and get some 2+2 and a tooth brush and clean the carbon.

oh I didn't read the post where you figured it out! Sorry I am not sure how I missed that.
