5.3 liter motor, lifter ticking/sticking
Hi, I'm new here to the forum looking for some help.
I took my 2005 yukon 5.3 liter vortec to the dealership to have the lifter tick confirmed. I was right. They told me that it was in fact sticking lifter or lifters.
A mechanic friend of mine and I replaced the lifters and 4 days later the lifter ticking is back again.
What do you think?
Was it not the lifters making the noise to begin with?
Is there a problem with oil not getting to those specific lifters? (Drivers side front of the motor)
Has anyone ever experience this?
I don't know what to do. Looking for some advice on what to do next. Pleeaaaassssseeee help!!!!!!

Is the noise an actual tick or a squeak noise? These engines are known for cam and lifter problems starting in 2007 and some on back. Any engine misfires present? When you removed the lifters how did the rollers look on the lifters? Rollers on the lifter chipped or roughed up or the cam lobe is worn?

Checked the cam lobes. They were good.
I didn't look at the rollers specifically. But didn't notice any damage.
It'* a ticking or tapping noise.
As far as I can tell there is no misfiring. Would the check engine light come on if the there was a misfire situation?
The oil pressure stays at 80.
As far as I have noticed it will only start ticking after it has warmed up and only after it idles for a few minutes. Example( my wife starts it in the morning, drives my daughter to school, while waiting to drop her off at school the car idles for a few minutes and the ticking starts. The ticking stops by the time she gets home again.) It always runs good. It just makes the noise.
Thanks for your help!

If your suspecting a collapsed lifter, an engine missifre would be present along with the check engine light majority of the time. Your oil pressure is at 80 ,I thought the gage went to 60 psi? Let me ask you this does the oil pressure gage stay pegged all the time at 60 or 80 or does it drop to around 20 or 30 psi when at a idle? The reason I ask is you might have a bad oil pressure sensor giving your a false reading, thus having lifter noise. How many miles are on this rig? Some noise is normal coming from the engine , depends on how loud it is to determine if a failure is present.

Does the Gage even read 80 with the key on but engine off? Cause the Gage should drop to around 25 psi at an idle. I'm suspecting your oil psi sender is bad (pretty common) causing your psi readings to be skewed. Get your Oil pressure Gage reading right, as I am very interested in what your actual readings are.

I just went and checked the gauge with the key on, engine not running. Pressure still reads 80 psi. This is not normal, right? Would this mean that the oil pressure sensor, oil pressure gauge or oil pump is bad?
I've done some research and found in one case that I read that one guy experienced lifter ticking at idle and his oil pressure gauge had read 0 psi. He replaced the heads, ( didn't fix it.) Then he replaced the oil pump and it fixed his 0 psi problem.
I guess I will need to fix the pressure reading problem first to get a good pressure reading.
Thanks

Yes the gauge is bad, I've seen the sender go bad, but many times the stepper motor in the cluster is bad. Your motor might be toast if it has been ran a while with low oil pressure. I would get a manual gauge and see what the actual pressure the engine is making.
