My point on the engine comparison was..
The basic block they start with is essentially identical to that from 30 years ago. If the underlying structure of the car stayed the same, why do you view it as bad. If something is proven, tested and works great do you scrap it and start fresh every 4 years? Seems to me that 4 years would be a good period to see the problems, issues and try to correct them while causing a few more.
