Uh Oh My Bonn. is about to dig VERY big hole in my pocket
I just found out today that she may need a new tranny bc theres a chain that they can't get to that easy and I'd be better off getting a new one I was told. But getting to the chain and replacing it will be around $1,800 and a new trans is about $2,800. Guess it'* time to really look harder for a job since I've been back from the Air Force. Right now it'* sitting at West Michigan Transmission so they can look it over (free or charge) because Chad called them for me and told them what the other place told us and they kinda laughed and said they were blowing smoke up my a$$ it shouldn't be that bad for that kind of car if it'* just a whining noise... it should be able to be fixed and that those quotes are outragous. Hopefully (fingers crossed) this situation comes out better than it sounds right now. I'm all worked up and driving her is embarrassing because it'* a noticable noise, kinda sounds like a wind up toy seriously! I'll fix her and she'll be better than driving my old car (the TEMPO!!! )!!! I'll update later when I find out more, should be sometime tomorrow.

Whoever told you your chain would cost you 1800 is a ripoff artist taking advantage of you for their interpretation of what they believe is your ignorance. Try HALF that price in parts and labor at a reputable shop.
Interesting. I've never seen or heard of a chain breaking, much less wearing out on a stock or nearly stock FWD GM trans like ours.
Second opinion. Get one or two.

That sucks Melissa - but definately get a second opinion. I can get a new transmission for $1600 from my work I believe. How many miles on your car?
I may have to get a rebuild/new tranny later this year. Mine has started slipping.
