yup 108 is the top speed. if ur lucky you can hit 110 115 on a downhill.
there is a chip that removes the govenor.
however 3800 performance is comming out w/ a new pcm forour cars. as soon as they do im buying one. itll eliminate the top speed and gainabout 20 hp. plus its more mod friendly vs teh ase chip which doesnt like other mods like rockers/cai/exst/ throttlebody etc.
ill let ya know when they come out and how i like mine

Yup, I've hit 110mph going downhill. The computer starts retarding the timing at around ~105. Irritating when you realize that the car would push past 120 without it.

Top speed governers are dictated by the tire rating of the factory installed tires. As far as I know, this is a federal mandate (or was as of the late 90s) for cars and light trucks sold in the US.
Bonnes delivered with * rated tires (SE and SSE models primarily) were governed at 112mph. All SSEi models I have seen, including my own, were delivered with H rated Goodyears and were governed at 124mph. Mine is a 1995 that runs right up to the cut off at HUD indicated 122mph. close enuff...
Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

1964 bonneville
Hi all. new member here
I own a 1964 bonneville - 389 4 barrel, 303hp@4600rpm, top speed 117mph (say the stats)
I hit about 110 the other day. Felt like it still had lots to go. Over 120 maybe? we shall see.
it just loves the 94 octane from chevron.
hehehe no computer chips here... just lots o fuel...
take care all
