Default Speed, top end, limiter!...and kicked my wife'*...

Last night my wife and I left a birthday party (sober I will add) in seperate cars. I was in the Bonne and she was in our Focus. It was very cold outside (car said -24C), so being the nice guy I was, I offered to pump the gas for her at the station just before we hit the freeway (404 for those that are in southern Ontario). I filled her car, and she left before mine was finished. I said to her to head for home and I will catch up

When I got on the highway, the road was mostly empty (late) and the roads were clear and dry (yes!)...to the floor it goes!

Before I was able to get to top speed, I could see her in the distance and she could see me approaching (she could tell by the lights). I could tell by the volume of exhaust that she had it pinned in O/D (remember, it was very cold)...so I decided to blow the doors off of her as I flew by!

I know from driving the focus, it will top out at about 162 km/h on the flat with no wind (as it was last night) and in the warm temperatures, so this should not be a problem for the Bonne.

Just before I passed her (within about 3km from the entrance ramp), I bumped into the limiter while still in third gear! The gage said about 176 km/h . The RPM dropped from about 4200 (remember, it was in third and still pulling hard) to about 3000 for a moment. That was long enough for the car to drop into O/D.

I kept it on the floor, and went past her...not really as fast as I wanted to, but just the same...I knew it would bug her . We all know that a Bonne will beat a Ztec Focus, but the fun was the fact that she thought she had enough of a head start on me to keep me behind her until we got to the two lane roads we have up north (Woodbine).

What was interesting though...in that cold (not sure if it was a factor or not), in O/D the car went to 181 km/h and was still going?!? Fast enough for me, but why would the limiter cut in at a slower speed in third while still plenty below the red? Odd...

Anyway, it was good laughs when we got back to the house...and it is something that we very rarely do...

Spur of the moment...you know!

Love 'em! This week I have to go back and forth to London...three times! Two of the trips are going to be in the late hours.

The bad thing is that it is going to snow like crazy!

Anyway, i would like to explore the top end of the car in O/D. Anyone know when and if the limiter will kick in?

If you can do 210...why cant the Bonne? I think it has the steam to do it...

GXP is probably governed too...most Auroras are governed at 108 mph unless you have Autobahn package...

I bet the 4.6L NS in the GXP is governed like the STS or SLS...
