Should a person shift down on a mountain pass?

[quote]A CAUTION:
If you don’t shift down, your brakes could
get so hot that they wouldn’t work well. You
would then have poor braking or even none going
down a hill. You could crash. Shift down to let
your engine assist your brakes on a steep
downhill slope
Know how to go down hills. The most important
thing to know is this: let your engine do some of the
slowing down. Shiftt o a lower gear when you go
down a steep or long hill.

NEVER ride the brakes going down a hill! Brakes will fade and you wont like the end results if you see a curve..... wind up needing to use a run-a-way truck ramp and some toilet paper

If you are on a steep hill its ok to drop to a lower gear to allow for some engine braking.... I have done this many times throught the Hills and mountains of Virginia and West Virginia.... I still have to use the brakes here and there, trying to stay at 60mph or so going downhill in 2nd gear....<--- this is supposed to be hard on the trans for prolonged periods tho, Might be more of a heat related issue than anything... I'd say if you need to go slow, and you are at 30 in 1st you'll be ok if its for a short time.... Should be 4000 Rpms or so for you if memory serves( if that ) And I think redline would be 42mph? And being a 94 model the tranny should shift to second if the revs get too high, thats with the selector in 1st...
Good Luck
