I can't say for certain that the PCM is the problem, I'd swap in a known good unit which I finally have as a trunk PCM for long trips.. If the SES light goes away and the car runs good again, then you know you have cured the problem... But again I can't confirm a bad PCM from here.. But I do feel its the problem... And in rare cases the EPROM can be bad too...

What is the manufacture date on the door of the car? I'm wondering if you have an early build 95 Model... Mine was built 12/22/94... Some of the earlier 95'* had some EPORM issues...And I have killed off the original PCM and a Reman PCM... Have been running a PCM from a low milage 95 and have had no further issues at all...
Manufacture date is february 95...

EDIT: And I'm confident that it is the PCM...that'* what the manual says, that of the KC, and at least according to the scanner the KC is working properly. I guess GMpartsdirect.com sells them remaned for $120 or so.

One more question...how can I tell, without swapping known good parts, if the problem is the pcm or the prom?

Don, I don't suppose swapping my '97 SCed PCM would be of any help, would it? After all, I am in Arizona and would be willing to drive anywhere in the state to help a fellow bonne owner.

Also, if my '97 PCM won't work, I have a co-worker with a 95 SE with 61,000 miles on it. Is there any danger of messing up his PCM if I were to ask him to borrow it to try on gruveb'* car?

gruveb....you have a PM

I picked up a new ecm from autozone on the way home last night, 100 bucks even. Slapped it in this morning and it runs perfect now. Gonna go run some errands shortly, we'll see if it really works.

Thanks everybody for your help.
