i've heard time and time again that fram suposedly sucks nuts. thats all well and good. i've yet to hear the sentence coninuted with "but brand X is a-ok and comes with a $40 bill in the package!"
so when i change my oil this weekend, while i'm busy not using a fram filter... what should i be using?

ACDelco, I believe that was the original filters that go on it. U may need to go to a dealer and get them though.

For a beater, I wouldn't worry about using or not using Fram. In the BeaterCivic I'm actually running Motomaster (Canadian Tire brand), which is rebranded Fram but about $0.50 to a buck cheaper.
But in a car I value a bit more, Napa Gold is my pick.

I prefer AMSOIL filters myself....That'* what I use on my truck. and soon the Trans Am.
If not that I'll run WIX, Purolator, or Delco. The K&N'* to me are just another name, and I don't care for K&N'* $10 price tag, prolly just paying for the name. Mobil 1 I don't know much about them, ran them on my last 2 bonne'* with no problems, didn't notice anything special I don't recall for the close to $10 price tag also.

I personally use the Advance Auto Total Grip in house brand filters, i get more oil pressure from them from fram and they seem to be made pretty well compared

ACDelco oil filters are sold at most if not all auto part stores. You don't have to go through the dealer. The only place I don't think they are sold, IIRC, is WalMart. WalMart sells Fram.
