Oil Changes
Just curious what everyone uses for oil changes on their cars...
Im a little ridiculous...Especially with my suburban..
5 qts of 10 30 1 qt of Lucas and a pint of marvel mystery oil,Also sense the rear main leaks about 150 miles before the oil change i put about a half quart of trans fluid in it every other time ...Vortecs love to gum up and be chattery so i like to do my best to keep it clean on the inside and out oh and a wix filter of course
The 86 gets mobil 5 30 and wix filter, then of course on my fiancees VW i gotta use stupid euro spec synthetic lol,The 92 gets whatever is on sale at the time (usually valvoline) and wix filter lol and the impala gets amsoil and wix filter
So how about you?

Oh an oil thread thanks for the reminder! I have not changed my oil in the PA in almost 5 months! ( oil monitor is reading 53 %) at 2500 miles!
Oil still looks good but getting dark, time to do it real soon anyways.
For my rides,I have recently switched to Penzoil platinum (full syn) from Mobil1 due to price.
Filter'* Napa gold normally, but just got some Mobil 1 filters on sale.
I have to admit, I also add a bit of MMO too. Keep things squeaky clean.

Pyscho about them too, I always jack the car up and use blocks to get the oil drain plug at the lowest point of the pan and let the oil drain overnight to get as much of the dirty old oil out as possible. I use Castrol oil and the largest Wix filter that will fit. Never been one for oil additives although in the last several years I've been using ZDDPlus in the Chevelle as modern oils (unless you go to a speciality racing oil) don't have enough zinc and phosphorus for flat tappet cams. With that said most people will over-do on the engine oil side as compared to the transmission maintenance. Probably 20 or more years ago when I read that automatic transmissions were getting more expensive to replace than engines I got "pyscho" about transmission maintenance also. No worries with the Chevelle tho, the wide-ratio 4-spd requires only periodic clutch adjustments and replacement at about the 100k mark and clutch replacement is one whole heck of a lot cheaper than an auto tranny.

I use exclusively Mobil 1 and since most of my vehicles are over 100k I use the high mileage formula that is supposed to reduce oil leaks by conditioning seals and gaskets. I have increased my between mileage oil change from 3k to 7k as I believe the Mobil 1 at 6k miles beats conventional oil at 2k miles. Just my gut and have nothing to back it except the 225k miles on my Bonneville 3.8l engine running strong with Mobil 1 for past decade.
Filter I exclusively use FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter. Fram marketed this filter when it bought out Champion Corporation. Of the many tests I have read, this is the very best filter on the market and it is sold by Wal Mart so it can be had at a very good price. AutoZone will not carry this filter as they don't want to compete on price with Wal-Mart. In my town AutoZone sells a standard Fram filter at a higher price than the FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter sold at Wal-Mart. Fram filters have a bad reputation and it is well deserved by all accounts. FRAM Ultra Synthetic Oil Filter is a huge exception.
