wonderlube here charges $25, and it'* annoying when you go there, cuz they check all of your lights and fluids and offer to fix the broken ones for really expensive.

I never go to the shops to get my oil changed. I'd rather let my oil change interval go longer than take it to a shop to get it done at the scheduled interval.

When I change my oil I make sure the car had been driven for at least 20 minutes prior to pulling the plug. Then I let it drip for a minimum of 4 hours. Letting it drip overnight is preferred, but not always feasible.

The quickie places let it drip for about 3 minutes.

I change my own. It takes 30 minutes usually from assembling the tools to washing up. And the last one I did for $7 including oil and filter. Needless to say, this stuff is being used as a rinse before putting in better oil (Schaeffer'* 7000).

Ummm...take it to Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Murray'*, or any other quickie lube place for proper recycling.

Tractor Supply Company, if you have it, also takes oil. Use http://maps.google.com to find local stores and their phone numbers. Call ahead to see if they will take the oil for free.

Are you sincerely interested in doing your own oil changes? I don't know if you'd have the room or time to do that in California. A dealership, though they charge more than other places, would probably do the second best job, right after you.

I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that But yeah, thats what I do too.

Mobil 1 and PureONE or Mobil1 filter for the truck... My reasoning past that is to let me inspect the underside of the vehicle...which a couple times has let me fix things before they break.

The Bonneville also gets the same oil and choice of filters, but it is done by a shop where I know the people since I can't do it...and they only charge about $15 labor...and it gets changed about every 5-6k.

Oddly enough...both the vehicles are due for changes, both having 6k on their current oil. Timing would be even more perfect if I could change the bonne'* myself

Used oil goes to Advance.

I do the Bonne myself, but other family cars I take to Valvoline Rapid Oil change, 4 blocks from my house. I get a $5.00 coupon in the mail for each car I have done there that also serves as a reminder to do it. Costs about $25.00 with the coupon.

in my city, the local recycling place takes the oil as long as it'* in a closed container (usually a used milk jug or the bottle the new oil came in), and we just put it out by the curb with our recycle
