Northstar vs Hemi
Hey all,
Anyone heard about the Chrysler 300C, it will be packing the 5.7 V8 Hemi, with 340hp.
I'm really afraid that our V8 Northstar in our new GXP won't be able to keep up with it.

From what I can see online it looks like it'* just about to be released.
Any idea if GM is planning to beef up the Northstar any?

I think putting the V8 back in the Bonnie was a step in the right direction for GM.
I mean Ford brought back the Marauder with 300hp a few years ago, and it'* taken a few for Pontiac to bring the Bonnie upto that level. Now that Chrysler has raised the bar again (340hp) I'm wondering how long til GM/Pontiac catches up.
Now what I'm talking about here is big powerful engines in big American mid range luxary cars. We all know Caddies and Lincoln'* have had nice big engines for years.

I don't think GM will do anything to the engine. They have an advantage here. Their engine is much smaller (4.6L as opposed to the 5.7L hemi), so it should get better gas mileage (although I don't know for sure if it does). I definately do not think they will try to bring the power ratings up to the Hemi'* level with the Northstar because it is short 1.1L, they have nothing to prove there. They may decide to go up to the 300hp northstar, but thats about it if anything.

I just took a brief look at the Pontiac.com site, 275hp V8, 0-60 in 6.5sec.. but no mention of RWD or FWD.
The specs for the 300C are 0-60 in 6.3sec so that car must weigh a bloody ton
