Pontiac is not shutting down. We are already discussing this in a current thread. MERGED.
Please, We don't need 2-3 current discussions about the same thing.

This whole thing is getting way out of line, with media shrilling a tune that catches listeners ears/eyes. The most current statement from GM is linked a couple posts up. Please read it and lets not start having a pity party over this just yet. I'm getting irritated over grown men starting to act like old biddies at the Beauty Parlor.

I thought you locked this?
well anyways it really doesn't matter if GM wants to do something, they will do it.
end of story
Cool thing is my wifes car in 7 years or so will be a classic....lol

No, I merged the two here and locked the other in News. You can post threads there because of your mod status. But news is to be real, credible, proven news. Lets keep opinions and essays here. When you read the GM Statement, it reads quite a bit differently than the media is playing it. "Pontiac will serve as a focused brand with fewer entries, within the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel." is a light year away from "Pontiac is dead"

Why Buick?
I know Pontiac'* gonna be a focused brand and blah blah.. But why are they keeping Buick around? GM even said that they were keeping Chevy as the mainstream car brand, GMC as the rugged trucks, Cadillac as the flagship luxury. So why keep Buick around if it'* basically luxury too?
I'm not sure what i'm missing out of here, but it seems like it would be better to keep Pontiac around, they've always been more drastically styled than their Chevrolet counterparts. I mean, the new G8 is awesome. It just seems like Buick should be a focused niche brand and Pontaic should be taking its place..

first of all, i hate to say it but none of your bonnevilles will instantly become collectors cars if pontiac goes out. i know first hand with my oldsmobile that the cars actually depreciate faster. my alero is a 2000 with more options than my grandma'* 2000 chevy malibu and her car is worth more than mine.

secondly, its a good thing that pontiac is going to be a specialty brand. it means that they're done pumping out crap cars and they're getting serious about the products they sell. just cause they are downsizing doesn't mean death to the name. they're just cutting the fat.
buick is staying because of its popularity in foreign markets. i wish they'd keep saturn around but i guess that if they can manage to pull the saturn customers back to chevrolet, then that would be ok. all i know is that they lost a ton of customers when they axed oldsmobile...

No Doubt, Shitcan the G5, get rid of the SUV/Van wannabe'*, and merge the G6/G8 platforms. If they would just keep the Solstice, the GTO, and the G8 I think they would cover a majority of what makes people want Pontiacs. Presently they overlap to much.
