Mac, if you do a poll, you'll probably find that Mobil1 is the most preferred brand here.
Please don't start a poll though. I don't know if I can take another oil or filter topic this week.
We don't have a favorite oil because in the long run, IT DOESN'T MATTER. Run cheap dino juice, and your engine will STILL outlast 2 transmissions and your ownership.

3800'* and the old 3.8 Vin 3 as well as the little brother 3300 and old 3.0( short stroke version of the 3.8 ) never beat the oil down.. I don't care what you use a Buick motor will not beat the oil like an older ford 3.8 would...
Use what ever you like..
Mobil
Havoline
Valvoline
Castrol
Quaker state
Penzoil
Who cares as long as its oil..
3800'* have been known to exceed 300k on dino oil before the car/* were totaled and even then they had great compression..
Just use a decent oil filter other than Fram( Maybe some like those cardboard filters )
And a decent Oil with the SM Rating and you'll be fine for a long time to come..

oil
Agreed with Jr 100%. Saw a show on 60 min where they ran NY City taxi cabs on numerous oil brands and found no difference at all in engine wear between brands.
You do get a longer service life with synthetics but in my case it just doesn't justify the cost as I have never worn an engine out yet changing the oil every 3k.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

I agree with that...
I do run Mobil 1 on the 95 SE, reason being is that I am Ultra Abusive to it... I want to make sure it has what it needs..
I just did an oil and filter change on the 91 LE today... I think I neglected it for 1 year without an oil change... Oil was still not black... I think it had Dino Mobil in it..
My buddy ran his 3.0 Buick V6 hard as H*** for its entire life and used nothing but Havoline 10-40 for its entire life.. We removed the motor at roughly 205K because every time we changed the oil we would hear a little rod tap, this would also happen after it sat overnight... We didn't want to blow the motor up so we got another one and installed it..
His 3.0 throughout its life never used oil, and most of the time in the 3000 mile intervals the oil came out looking not much darker than it went in, and it was always full... Inside of the motor is as clean as a new motor... His L27 in the Park Ave is the same way.. And gets the same oil... 170k on it..

Just to toss in my two cents.
When I got my cav it had Mobil One Synthetic in it, nice and smooth. When I got the first oil change done, I cheaped out and got Valvoline durablend and I thought it was fine. Just the other day I did the oil change myself with Mobile One Synthetic and here is what I noticed.
The lifter chatter.....way quieter. The ecotec has the loudest valve train I have ever heard. With the Mobile One, its much quieter. I love it!
