New Mobil 1 High Mileage
Just wondering if anyone has tried it yet; it'* supposed to be a tad thicker than regular Mobil 1. :?:
It'* one of the few high mileage full synthetics out there. The only other one I can think of is Valvoline'* full synthetic Maxlife.

It'* oil, it'* not going to make much difference in longevity, won't affect performance for the positive or the negative, and after 100k, you won't notice much difference between it and quality dino-juice.
Synthetic has it'* advantages, but they're subtle for the most part. It all comes down to how much you want to talk about oil and filters, and how much you want to spend on it.
Go buy some, read the label, dump it in. You be the guinea pig for us. Then come back in 5-10k and tell us "It worked GREAT!".

No, I don't have a mindless obsession with oil and filters. I researched my oil choices and asked questions, then chose one, and don't really feel the need to change oil or make it my life'* work to constantly research them. I know which are junk and stay away from them.
I look them up when people ask about new stuff.
Mac, if you could clone yourself and your car, then use Dino in one, and your best oil choice in the other, both engines will still outlast 2 transmissions in your Buick. And your total fuel expenses won't vary by more than 30 bucks a year, assuming cloned driving habits. So pick a good oil and filter, and stick with it.
If you used the time you spend reading about oil and filters to go to the store and buy the oil and change it, you'd have the cleanest engine around here. But it'll still only outlast 2 transmissions.

Sorry if we disappoint you MAC. Many of us use Mobil 1, have no trouble changing it at the expected intervals. Similar with the dino using people. It'* working well.
Personally I don't like the idea of having a longer change interval. Especially when GM trains their techs to expect about a half of quart of consumption over approximately 3,000 miles.

No I'm not disappointed at all, but I am just a tad bit surprised that their isn't a preference for a particular oil on this forum like there are for other brands of parts, like NGK spark plugs. I keep thinking that there must be an oil that the 3800 likes the best; mainly in terms of viscosity. For example: there'* all kinds of 10W-30'* on the market, and none of them are the exact same viscosity.

MAC, why do you think there are so many diffrent type'* of oil and brands?
if one oil was the best and only the best and it maid that big of a difference then the whole world would know not just BC.
Yes new things look better then older models, yes new names may sound better.
But most of it comes down to one thing. and one thing only with Company'*.
$$$
Its all about the $, if they can think of a new thing that may be just a tiny bit better and they can change the name and put a new label on it they will and sell it to you just to keep you buying from them.
Want to know my Favorite type of oil and filter....?
Its Walmart Full Synthetic and Wix oil Filters.
and why walmart? Cuz its cheap and im poor.

and it doesn't matter that type, brand, color, what ever oil or additives i put in my car, its just as loud and has the same tick that will always be there untill i fix the lifter.
now if your talking what weight oil, then that makes some difference, but that should be a diffrent topic

i like castrol oils,
i try to run castrol 5w30 sythetic blend when i change my own oil, but other than that i get whatever jiffy lube puts in
I like castrol because its the ONLY oil that would get rid of the lifter tap in my 3100 in my last car. and i must have used 10-15 different oils in that car over a year period
