My Dream
I was looking in the paper for the first time in forever when I see something that I like. Its a 1992 Bonneville SSE. Description says Fully Loaded, they want 2k for it. Called and it is loaded, but it has 196k miles. I really want one because I have always wanted one from the year I was born and I just want it. But the thing is if I get it am I going to have problems because of the high mileage? I keep saying no but my parents dont listen to me much. What do you guys think about it? And what are some problems the early 90'* models had with that many miles? Thank you maybe your word will be better than mine to my parents. (also I wouldnt mind reassurance that it wouldnt be problematic)

Generally, the 92-95, (actually the 92-99s for that matter) are pretty reliable. Since this is a SSE non-supercharged, it will have the EGRless L27. It is recommended that you at least get a high flow cat on there, to keep exhaust temps down, so you don't burn the valves, as some are known to do it that year. Another thing is subframe mount rust. With your area you are in, I would climb under there if I was you, and check thoroughly where the subframe attaches to the body (IE use a screwdriver and poke at any rust you see), and see if there is rot, if so, and you don't have the ability to fix it, don't buy it. Other than that if it'* fine, I would say to go for it.
Other things to look out for are common things such as if it has a moonroof, are the drains clean and free of crap, is the seal good around the glass, how about rust, check the wheelwells and inside the trunk for rot in those areas.

I dunno dude.... if you've got a well running 96, why don't you just hang on to that one. That 92'* got a lotta miles, maybe wait for a lower mileage one to come around. These are really good cars, but no matter what you have, at 200K stuff starts to wear out and that'll get annoying. Use that 2K and pimp out your SLE

with that mileage, I would say the price is a tad high. I would be worried about under body rust. for $1000-1200, maybe if it is as nice as you think.
I think if you look more, you can find one for far less.

personally, if i was you, i would try to shop around some more and keep saving up your money and try to find one just as nice with less miles or less money at least.
so you said its from your birth year, so that makes you 15? do you even have your license yet?

Barely 15 anymore. yes its a lot of miles the man who owns it is older and never drove it in the winter. he only drove it in the winter to impress people at parties (what a surprise) The miles are all highway and they are trip highway miles. there is no rust from what I understand. I would take the 96 but my mom decided she wants to keep it longer ( it was the last car her grandfather found for her, he was one that only drove Bonnevilles from the 60'* on).
