miss fire 2001 ssei (fixed)
On way home from work going 55 my Bonneville started miss firing terribly so i immediately pulled over. looked under the hood and saw the supercharger pulley had oil dripping from it. My question is, would anyone know if this could be related or is it just good luck i found the drip because its miss firing?
I am hoping that i didnt run the supercharger too low and this is causing it...i trailered it home and havent checked the codes yet. Any common solutions?

Scan the car to see what P030x code you have. You may have lost a coil and that caused the misfire. The supercharger leaking from the oil seal shouldn't cause a misfire.

code was p0300 i think, multiple cylinder misfire it said. i looked at it again and could see the oil on the lower control arm so it must have lost a lot, it was puddled there. so it looks like if i fix the misfire i have to rebuild the */c snout? ugghh what a head ache lol..any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks for the reply so fast

P0300 is a pain, it really don't tell you much. But I would start by changing the plugs. How old are the plug wires? And then check the coils.
As for the supercharger. You could just replace the oil seal on the end. however, you will need a pulley puller, and it has to be the correct type. Otherwise you will destroy the pulley.

i've been reading about a vent at the end of the */c..could the misfire be just causing the oil to spew out..i am hoping so since it didn't leak till the misfire. I will keep this posted after i fix the misfire and buy some */c oil and see what happens. again thanks for the reply'*

You'll know if it'* really the supercharger oil from the smell of it. Doesn't smell like regular oil at all. I just did the snout rebuild on mine. But I bought a shop press and did the snout bearings, seal and coupler.
That is some foul smelling stuff in that snout. The seal must have really let go for it to be coming out fast enough to be dripping off the pulley like that.

once the oil is on the belt it can get everywhere, first thing i would look at is the coil pack to see if the oil is causing that to short. if not then maybe its separate but something to look for.

alright well i filled the */c up, changed plugs which were long overdue. swapped coils with spares i had off old car, and getting spark off them all. wires are ordered but visually look ok. Have a crank sensor but dont want to waste my time with it, i would like to resort to that last. It is still random misfiring with same code
