You can always 'change your mind' because of the price and ask them to keep looking, unless they meet your terms.

They have WAY more than $2k headroom in that price. I gaurantee it. 2k would be easy.

Ahhh, I thought 'rik was paid for.

Get your price if you can, then do the deal.

Thanks guys. I always feel like a jerk trying to negotiate so low below the asking price, but I had better get over that because they'll screw us as much as they can for sure. I guess I'm just too nice about it, and the hubby is too...we'll suck it up and play hardball today.

here'* my opinion. Go in planning on not getting it. Explain you've looked at the numbers and they aren't going to work for you.

Plan not to buy it. Wait for a better deal, there are better deals out there. I got my truck that way. Never intended on buying it. The deal finally got too good for me to pass up. At this point, that car will be on their lot for a while. Nothing wrong in dragging your feet a little.

If you plan on not getting it, you aren't playing hardball, you are watching your finances instead of letting them fly out the door.

Good point Bill...and we actually already do plan on not buying it. If they sweeten the deal though, we will reconsider. As it stands though, no, we're definately not going to buy it.

That'* the way to go. Increasing payments and things like that shouldn't be a consideration.

As well your current car is in great shape and needs almost nothing. The 3.8 is one of the most reliable and longest lasting motors available. Most members here will tell you..these cars don't cost much to maintain and work on.

We were only considering increasing the payment in order to make the loan much shorter. Right now we have a 72 month (no wonder we haven't paid it off, right? ), but I want it down to a 48 month if at all possible. If not, at least a 60 month...no higher than that on any car ever again...we've made that mistake and look where it got us. Not that I regret buying our car at all, but we should have worked harder to make a better deal on it (we took basically their asking price), and gotten a shorter loan.

That 02 isnt much different than mine, less the CD changer, but I got mine at damn near the same mileage, right about 18k for price. I was able with my 3500 trade in, and some talking....well....ranting , down to 14500 for mine. While being "curtious"[sp], be firm and always haggle, cause it works.

If they stay firm, be a stickler and really go over the car to see if anything would present a problem in the very near future, then point it out and go for a lower price. thats one way of doing it.

my .02

So true Chad. Hailey..you guys know the points on the car to look for issues... point them out...bring that price down.

Look for any service to the SC oil..that'll get them for sure.
