Looking to buy a new GM
I’m about to buy another vehicle (2006 to 2015 range)
I want to get a truck or SUV and my options are between the following:
Silverado 2500hd
GMC Sierra 2500
Suburban
Yukon
Yukon XL
Escalade
Escalade ESV
Would like to stay on the bigger sides of the SUVs
Couple things I’m worrried about is reliability, I know a bit about a few of the years but when they start going newer I’m a little more unsure.
I don’t wanna deal with AFM and if I was to is it easy to do a delete?
Also I’m looking for something under 20k
Thanks!

The 2500'* don't have AFM. I believe the rest do.
2007 model year on to ~2013 model year had a notable amount of AFM and oil consumption issues. ~2014+ seem to be doing better, although no promises. If you get a Tahoe or Yukon non-XL, it is possible to get the 4.8, which never had AFM and was a good (and unappreciated) engine. The other thing to watch out for it transmissions. Some of the 6-speeds had issues that needed to be sorted out. Odds are fair that the sorting is probably done on the bad ones. If you test drive one and it doesn't do anything unbecoming, it is probably okay. The 8-speed transmissions that started to appear around 2015 can be bad news. I've driven a bunch and had no issues, but most of the ones I've driven were fairly new. Many folks have had issues with them, enough to start a class action against GM. This issue is the first time I've heard of anyone saying [why yes, we see the issues, but this is not a warranty issue . . . rather, this is a poorly designed transmission therefore warranty doesn't cover repairing it. You've got what you bought, so sad too bad] . The 10-speed automatics seem to be doing well at GM.
Hopefully that gets you started down the right path.
