imho...
go for anything made after 96, so at least get the OBDII functionality.
the front seat ride in the 00+ is VERY comfortable, get buckets not a BENCH. Rear space can be limiting...
I know they can be pricey, but try to get your hands on an SSEI model.. You might as well get all the bells and whistles you can, as well as a supercharger..
I love my 2002 SE!
my two cents..

95 was the first year of the Series 2 non-supercharged, 96 was the first year of the Series 2 Supercharged. HOWEVER.....97 was the first year of the 'upgraded' trans, the 4T65E.
I'm not entirely sold on the fact that the 65 trans was better than it'* predecessor, the 4T60E. I've seen alot more trans failures and problems in the 65'*, even though they're newer. I think Pontiac has been steadily going backwards for the last 15 years in tranny design, or at least not beefing them up well enough to keep up with the increased power of the engines.
I would personally be tempted to buy a 1996 SSEi with the 4T60E trans. But anyway, other opinions and information may sway you one way or another. A SC model would be a big benefit, as you can stay away from the upper intake problem. You won't regret it.
If your price hunt has you looking at a 99SE or a 97SSEi for the same price, lean towards the SSEi. More bells and whistles, and the fun 'whine'.

i'd go for a 1995 or newer bonnie. They became more reliable over time and this is when they started to get more seriouse standard horespower. It'* worth the extra bucks for the newest you can get because, in most cases, they have better relability! Good Luck!

Boost is like potato chips....gotta have more
Once you've had BOOST, you'll never be able to go back to anything less.
And then there are those guys at Q-lube or the tire shop..."Dude..do you know this thing got a blower on it??" My come back is always the same " Really !!! NO ****! what'* a blower?" Works good for us old guys..always good for a laugh
That Supercharged badge commands instant respect with anyone that knows anything about cars
All the other models are great... the SSE SE etc. there nice... but once you've had BOOST.....well trust me

I prefer the 92-95 body style the most, but a 96 SSEi may be the best combo of both worlds. If you go earlier, you can have more mods for the car. Some 97'* are rare in the fact they are 40th anniversary. Just take plenty of time, and when one finally roles along, take it.
