I need some help with an interchange for a Air Bag Sensor for my 96
I finally got around to removing the entire interior from the car to soak up water because I forgot to roll up a window and while I was doing that I pulled the air bag sensor out because allot of the Grand Am'* and my Achieva all had the same problem with the unit bolted to the floor pad and if any water got in the car it would short the unit and throw the air bad light and if you ignored the light the air bags or a single air bad would deploy without an impact, also that is how I got my Achieva on the cheap side they ignored the light and when her husband was going to work the air bag on the driver side went off causing him to almost hit a light pole. So I started to ask a few other people I saw that had another car of the same year as mine and I found a way to relocate the unit by rewiring the grounds for it and placing the module under the dash but I am now needing help on the interchange for one because I know have relocated the wiring for it. The part # is 16227379 and the Service # is 16210439. Also I will upload a picture of the unit for a better reference.

Also it would be nice if I could use one of these sensors from a Grand Am because the are allot easier to come across but I am really not for sure so that is the reason I am asking everyone here at GM Forms.

That'* weird, even I can't seem to find a source for that part #. I think your best bet would be to find one at a junk yard that has the same part #.
Remember, if your going to relocate the module, you need to keep it flat and level pointing in the same direction as if it were installed on the floor. Otherwise, it may set the bags off if the cars going in a weird direction.

Why would it need to be level or flat if I may ask. Are these sensors that picky. Also do you thing I should take a peek at a few 96 or 97 Grand Am'* because when I did a search on that part # it came back to a 96 or a 97 Grand Am.

The sensor measures deceleration in a specific direction. To say they are sensitive to being level and oriented in the correct direction is an understatement.

You probably have a door seal issue that'* allowing the water to come in. Probably the best way to see where water is coming in is to pull all the seats, and pull out the carpet, close all the windoes and doors and have someone take a garden hose and shoot water over all the doors while your inside watching for leaks.

He stated in his first post he has water in the car because he left the window open.
