Oh, great this is NOT something I wanted to know. Did this affect any certain years?

I can't remember off hand, it did have something to do with the fact that the computer for the abs was located under the seat ( I think) and it was getting wet and started to corroded and then POOF! off goes the air bag.

Under the seat, hm? Okay, so occasionally checking to make sure its nice and dry under there and I should avoid any problems, right?

I would remove the SIR fuse, this will definitely prevent inadvertant deployment.

Can do what I do.....Just remove the air bag itself....sure you'll have an aestetically displeasing steering wheel....but hey...you won't randomly get a face full of air bag . Besides when GM bags go off....MAN DO THEY STINK! Worse than the */C oil IMO.

Airbag removal is easy on the drivers side. Disconnect battery...find four screws that go in the back side of the wheel...Drink beer. Get four screws out....Drink another beer. Pull air bag out....open and drink half a beer....and unplug the harness' in it and finish your beer. And your done. Installtion is reverse from removal.

Or pulling the fuse and disconnecting the yellow wire is easier...leaves more time for Beer. I'd think a guy from MN would know that one.
