how do you remove the serpentine belt?

Well removal is no problem, but putting the new one on is the trouble...
off= -edit for people that would actually cut off there belt...
on= put it around the pullys, and pull back the tensioner and slip it on...

You have to support the motor with a block of wood and a jack, and swing that motor mount out of the way (unbolt it). Series 1 doesn't have that problem, but Series 2 does.

Then simply release the tension on the idler pulley and pull the belt away. Use a ratchet and socket, and force it downward with one hand, lift the belt off with the other.

Tofu, you do have a Series 1, but you can call it whatever you want. Your problem is your tight engine compartment space, not the Series of motor.
Our Series 1'* don't have your problem.
