ELC compressor
Don't know if it will apply to your 1998 Lesabre but my 1997 Bonneville SLE was missing a section of wiring harness for the ELC from the time the car was new. It goes from the rear lighting harness through a hole in the trunk on the right hand side and then into the ELC compressor. It is about 18 inches long. Mine still had factory sticky tape on the hole in the frame. Got harness from junked Bonny and it works great. BTW since mine has never run in 9 years the pump is nearly silent since I got it working. SO, I guess if you can hear it clearly it maybe ready to go???

ELC compressor
1993SLE...who are you asking this question of? I HAD the selectable suspension [CCR] and still have inflator in the trunk with the on/off switch. It was a section of wiring that was missing in my car. I don't think any Buick Lesabre had CCR or inflator that I know of. Never saw any anyway in all my years in Buick/Pontiac dealerships.

The harness that actually plugs into ELC motor. It goes from the pump through the frame and into the trunk near the pump and attaches to a pigtail that comes out of harness to rear lamps. It was never there from day one. It is a separate piece of harness about 18" long. I don't know what years were wired this way. I had the car for about a year before I noticed that ELC wasn't working. I am second owner so ELC never worked for first owners. Car now has working ELC and Gabriel Ultra struts in all four corners. These struts are very firm but the control is excellent. Greatly reduced lean in corners and dive and squat while braking/accelerating.

Look at the factory service manual for the ELC on a Pontiac and you will decide you don't really need it. It is quite complicated as it use a valve to shut off air to struts when you want to fill a tire or beach ball. There are many extra parts and relays. I guess if you got the whole thing from a junker including rear trunk trim you COULD do it.

rear leveling compressor
I own a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. At 45,000 miles ago (now at 160k)...I noticed when I purchased this vehicle, my rear end was low. Thought nothing of it cause I had junk in the trunk. After a year or so, I noticed a hose hanging down in the rear right of the car. After further inspection, it was a hose that went to a T-fitting, and all of the hose was deteriorated. I removed it. My check engine light came on some time later, and the code was a vapor leak. My thought was this hose was to the evap canister, I didn't even know I had air ride in the rear, or that there was a compressor. I'm just now learning that this is indeed the hose. I actually replaced the hose with nylon weather resistant hose. I passed emissions, and C.E. light is still on. I now know that was not the source of the problem. I had the rear struts done last year, one of them was actually broken, and I notice no difference in the level of the vehicle. I have yet to test the compressor, but I noticed another pump in the trunk behind the matting. Any suggestions with any of this is appreciated, Thanks!
