I'd do the cam now while it'll be easiest/cheapest.
They're not expensive if you do it yourself. You don't need to go BALLS out for power with it either, but you can set yourself up for down the road power.. It'll also make other mods respond better with more power, be a KR killer most likely etc. If he'd ever go to 1.9'* this would be better.

To thwooms comment, it is going to happen this weekend. But i will get a hold of you after it is done and have him take you for a ride and show it to you.
Cam is out of the picture at this point. Trust me i know what it is all about i just did one in my L36 remember?? By the time he buys a cam and install kit, you are talking another 500. I think at this point considering he just paid cash for a 2000 se and just paid cash for a complete low milage dropout, he is kinda broke lol. He has about 200 bucks for mods (only cause i will not leave him alone lol).
Down the road a cam may come into play but i dunno. (it is not that hard to pull a motor in these cars, bill can do it in less then 2 hours). I know in a day, we can pull a motor, strip it down, go get something to eat, rebuild it, put it back in, go for a test ride and be home before dark. I know cause we already did it
