Headliner Question for my 89 Olds Delta 88
I am gonna be pulling my headliner down next week and gonna replace the fabric I am gonna be buying from my local Hobby Lobby. I already got all the measurements I am needing along with what kind of spray adhesive I am needing to use. But I am needing to know when I get it pulled down what due I use to clean the old glue off the board. So since I don't know what I am needing to get to remove the old glue of I am hoping yall might have some helpful incite on a adhesive remover or a tool to remove the old glue. Thanks.

If there is a layer of foam between the cloth and the headliner substrate you may not be able to remove the existing adhesive. Best to get it down and the cloth pulled off to see what the construction is. If, at that point, you want our advice take some pictures and post them. We will take a look and if anyone has any ideas I'm sure they will post them for you.

My camera is working right on my phone but I have a foam like board the the cloth attaches to. So can that be repaired or not. Thanks.

Just get the foam off the board completely and use 3M Super Trim Adhesive (Part No. 08080). Most automotive paint stores have it. It is the best and really holds.

In an 89 GM it should be a "composite hardboard" with foam adhesive. Was in my LeSabre. Any kind of remover is going to melt foam. That 3M adhesive is tough and tacky, you may just want to use it with what you have.

Good coverage. allowing it get tacky, rolling something over the fabric, I used a peice of garden hose on the LeSabre LOL. And letting it cure before re-installing. 3M makes various spray adhesives. Use the Heavy Duty Trim one.

I would if it is as you describe. The old is likely the best thing for the new to tack to if there isnt anything else stuck to it.
