Default GM Rates High in JD Power Dependability

I came across this article today while cleaning my windows...lol

I cannot seem to find the article online, so here is the gist of it

Most Dependable Brand (based on total problems per 100 vehicles)

1. Lexus 162
2. Buick 187
3. Infiniti 189
4. Lincoln 194
5. Cadillac 196
6. Honda 209
7. Acura 212
8. Toyota 216
9. Mercury 224
10. Porsche. 269

Five Least Dependable Brands

33. Volkswagen 386
34. Isuzu 393
35. Daewoo 411
36. Kia 432
37. Land Rover 472

Industry Standard was 269

Source: JD Power and Associates Annual Vehicle Dependability Survey for 2003.

I guess Pontiac (and Olds for that matter) were somewhere in the middle. Regardless sez a lot about GM build quality and its improvements over the years. The old wives tale about domestic cars being problematic is now just that...an old wives tale

Some notable absentees that shocked me: Nothing from Chrysler, esp since they are trying had to up the image, no Nissan in the top 10 (Infinti ok but that doesnt count), then watching Honda slide...wow

Wheres BMW? Mercedes? Jaguar?

I bet Pontiac rated middle of the pack with Chevrolet

I can see why Buick would get the 2nd position. I had that 88 LeSabre of mine (in my family) for over 7 years and it didn't even need more than $1000 in repairs in those 7 yeras. It was the most dependable car my family has ever owned, ever.. The Riviera has been basically reliable too. Just a few quirks here and there.

Its not necessarily a mechanical thing, more of an overall build quality. GM vowed to do that and it appears their upper market cars are doing just that. I would expect to see the rest come up shortly.

the dont make olds anymore, remember?

GM has two in the top 5, both above honda!

Thats funny that Kia has the 10/100,000 warranty and is one of the most problematic. Not that i would ever buy a kia anyway...

Volkswagon is really fubaring (word?) up something in their cars. The quality has fallen apart that they are getting awful reviews lately. Hmmm...maybe this was Hitler'* plan all along.
