Dood, you're in some serious trouble. Cops aren't the law. The court is. You would have been arrested on the spot if there was proof you assaulted the owner, which you did do.
If this comes out in court, you're done. Fried. Crispy. I gaurantee it. I won't list my credentials or background to reinforce what I'm telling you.
The cop can tell you anything he wants. He has no authority when it comes to court, and only has a SLIGHT credibility advantage. Not only that, but you posted this in a publicly accessible location. Your admission here can be traced back to you.
You assaulted them. You are not a mind-reader, therefore you cannot prove that they were GOING to assault you.
You had many outs. The first is that you are not legally responsible for charges not PREVIOUSLY APPROVED by you. You should have called the police when they denied you access to your car.
End of story.

Well you already know you reacted wrong, we wont bring that back up, thats done. But the remaining part of this case should definitely be dealt with in court. You spitting in the owner'* face and assaulting one of the employees still does not exactly justify what THEY did to you. Yeah, it was a childish reaction, I know I wouldn't react the same way, but I woulda been just as well damn pissed. But, as you've probably already concluded, things get handled much easier sans assault.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

I agree totally with willwren. Your best bet is to quit while you are behind. Drop the whole thing with this guy and cut your losses. Even by your own admission you thought you were going to jail... if you go to court with this guy that is exactly where you will end up.
Kiss your $700 good-bye and go get yourself an anger management class.

That would have been a very stupid move as well.
You should have refused payment for unauthorized service, and called the police to force release of your car.
That'* a law that was in your favor, and you didn't take advantage of it when you had the chance.
A letter of shoddy workmanship from a GM dealer won't help you much when you're defending yourself against criminal and/or civil charges of assault.
Forget court. You may win the case for unauthorized work, but you WILL expose yourself to assault charges.

I say do this, keep this out the courts. Go to the city get a permit to have a peaceful protest, get some friends and family members together and picket infront of their business. If they loose $700 worth of business the day you protest...consider it a personal gain. If the local media comes out, be honest about the WHOLE event including what you did wrong yourself. Honesty is the best way to go. I agree that you did overreact by spitting but even if the guy did try to press charges, spitting on someone (while a gross lewd act) is not something a person gets life in prison for . The most I think you could get is probation and a fine under the circumstances that took place, this varies from case to case.
But seriously, protest. I live in Detroit and just by your story (as well as other views expressed in this thread) I will never give Firestone my business. You turned me off, think of the people you can turn-off in your community ...just a thought

I wouldn't do that protest thing either.
It may spark them to retaliate with assault charges. If I were in their shoes, that'* exactly what I'd do. And then publicize that whole thing to prove their 'right' in the case. It'* a no-brainer.
Because of the assault, you have no choice but to write it off, tip-toe away quietly, and hope they don't get smart about pressing charges.

listen to willwren. (ur toast and are just making it worse for yourself)
When I am upset about poor service my first response is to speak with the boss. Almost every boss has a boss and I just go up till I get to the top.
If that dosent work I file a complaint with the BBB. It has actually worked several times.
