Correct. Some refer to it as 'packing'. Think of it as a compressible gasket. It'* squeezed between the rear manifold and downpipe, by spring force. Check the two bolts and springs to make sure the hardware portion hasn't failed. The packing MAY be fine.

My SSE was leaking in front of the cat where the two pipes are slipped together.
I wacked the cat forward with a deadblow hammer put two clamps on either side of the joint with a metal plate connecting them. Bye Bye leak............

I think I may have a small leak.. but it only happens @ 2000 RPM.. but can't reproduce it when not underload so I couldn't climb under it to check when it'* up on ramp. Any suggestion? ( other then pullin a SPEED and ride on a lil cart while its driving )
