Engine/tranny/subframe removal

Engine/tranny/subframe removal
ok, as it appears that no one is interested in the whole car, i am going to be parting the remainder of the Red SSE. What I need to know, is what is the easiest and cheapest way to get the engine/tranny/subframe out of the car? I do not have an engine hoist at the moment, but do have 3 floor jacks, 1 farmer'* jack, and half a dozen or more jack stands. I also have an industrial set of rollers I can put it on. Now the options I have come up with for this setup is to lift the car up off the engine, or cut the car away from it. Anyone have suggestions for how to do this, or want to stop by and help? I am going to be working on it friday and saturday after thanksgiving.
So any suggestions on how to get it out?
Also, if anyone wants to purchase the remainder of the car before hand, let me know soon. If it can be picked up on one of those days, I will let it go for $250/BO minus the interior, which is basically sold to another member and some other random parts. What i can guarentee at minimum will be on the car is engine/tranny/supercharged parts, doors, sunroof, glass, trunklid and spoiler, driver'* side fender, hood, and rims/tires/suspension.
If you cannot pick it up til after that, I would need a paypal of the whole amount prior to next wednesday which would be non-refundable.

Geoff, to be honest, if you want to get the engine, trans, and subframe out together, you've got to have a lift. You'd do this at a dangerous height at your place.
My suggestion would be to rent a lift and take the motor and trans together, then leave the subframe intact.
If you dropped the trans and subframe out the bottom, you'd have to support the motor with a brace, then remove it with a hoist anyway.

I am pretty sure that it will all clear out the bottom. i would like to do it as one unit if I do, and I don't my cutting or using a persuasionary device on the inner fenders to get more clearance.
I know this is going to be a lot of work, so I also have my dad getting a hold of my mechanic to see about yanking the motor and tranny out at his shop then doing the rest at my house. I am hoping someone wants the car as a whole first though, so I don't need to go through the trouble.

It will all fit out the bottom...it would be close. That'* how our dismantler'* do it at work.
I wish I was local...I'd hit it for 250.

I was very close to buying one of these. I figured that this would make it very easy to drop entire FWD drivetrains.
Have you given any more thought to the motorcycle lift to drop and drag the assembly out?

When I did my motor swap in my 91 Lumina, I did it in my garage. I disconnected everything, put a 4 wheel dolly underneith it, lowered the car down onto the dolly, removed the 4 subframe bolts, then jacked the car up enough to clear the motor. I actually ended up putting 300 pounds of sandbags on the spoiler to keep the weight on the back, and using my floor jack and jack stands, I was almost in front of the rear wheels with my jackstands to get the car at enough of an angle to clear the motor. Just something to think about.
Good luck if you end up doing that -- take some pics of it, that'* one thing I neglected to do and wished I had. Having the car at the angle is interesting looking, to say the least.

Ok... so it can be done without a lift. I have access to the dolly and such, and enough jacks to get it done. Sandbags are another story. But I thin a 4-ton farmer'* jack, an SUV jack and 2 floor jacks should do the trick.
About how heavy is the motor/tranny combination? my dad thinks that I won't be able to move it when I go to pull it out from under the car.

Randy and I were able to use a hoist to get the car off the engine/subframe and it was close.
The subframe/motor/trans was very heavy. We had trouble getting it off a jack to move and then couldn't slide it at all on plywood. Luckily a tow truck came to our aid.
