I have yet to experience it myself as I've driven vehicles with only the good ol' cable setup, but I have never heard anything good about it in terms of driving dyanmics and feel.

Don't know about GM, but our Chrysler has drive by wire. You can't really tell it when you're driving, it reacts just like a cable driven, but I still don't like the thought of it. If something goes haywire with just one little thing, it can make the whole car undriveable.

It seems to me a better way to have a more complicated setup, the way it was explained to me in another thread here, there is a servo motor that controls the throttle blade opening. There is still a spring attached to the gas pedal for proper feel, but instead of having a cable opening the plates, its a motor.
I would worry about mechanical failure of the motor, but some see it in a postive light to further control and manipulate the operation of the engine.
Personally, I just see it as one more way to shut the hood, figuratively speaking, on the casual shadetree home mechanic. We better get used to it though, looks like its here to stay

I HATE it. It has WAY too much lag if you ask me. Plus it completely ruins that whole, CONNECTED feel that I love with a cable. Plus, thats just ONE more thing to go wrong, if and WHEN that servo wears out? We're talking about replacement cost, downtime, unknown reliability, etc. Its NOT a good system, and I HONESTLY have no idea WHY they would do such a thing.

I hate it. Its only one more thing to go wrong. The old setup worked perfectly fine, no middleman of an electronic component, and you had direct access to the throttle plate from your foot through the cable, now why this?
Its whole existence is to be a marketing tool, nothing else. People hear 'drive-by-wire' and they think its cool, without ever giving much though about it. But like lemmings they buy into it, the same lemmings who criticize the 3800 because 'its old'.

I agree it doesn't feel the same and its one more thing to complicate. My L32 swap I'm planning isn't going to use that TB I'll give it to my buddy who has a 04 Comp G or sell it.
I'm just happy with cables and springs.

After driving Sandrocks Malibu Maxx LTZ, I have to say it takes a bit of getting used to.. Its always seems as if there is a bit of Lag in the system.. But once you get used to it its ok.. Feels funny getting back behind the wheel of a car with Cables tho.. Then you get used to it again.. LOL
I do like the Maxx LTZ... Its a good driving car, and as much as I don't care for the drive By Wire, It wouldn't stop me from getting a Maxx SS

Speaking of Malibus...remember that talk about how stupid it was of GM to put the 3500 V6 and the 4t45e? Well, the SS, with the 3900...STILL has the 4t45e.
So I would not be goin' to go get an '06 SS. Get the '07 with the much longer powertrain warranty
