Years back my family just about lost everything, and filed bankruptcy... Just couldn't keep up with the bills and at the time my mother had lost her job... Bad timming for everything... We went through hell and back getting up again... It was difficult... To this day I still think back and thank god I am not there.. Its not fun being dead broke at thanksgiving with nothing to eat or drink... And having to take a handout from the local church... I was glad that people were caring enough to be that kind to help other in their time of need... I hope no one will have to endure what we did... We did have a roof over our heads though.. I ended up getting a job because of a good friend, and I helped my family.. We got another car, I got the insurance for it and made the chunky down payment because dad now had horrible credit... So then we had a car( I wanted a Bonneville, Yes even way back then) Dad got a job... So I went and got another car for me... My mother got a job, so I let her drive my car, as I worked all night I drove dads car and he went to work after I got home... Mom was already at work by then... I have 2 bonnevilles and have for some time now, The very car I helped dad buy I have now as he died over a year ago... I am a very family oriented person, Its the little things in life that are so important... I'm hoping that everything willl go great for you and you wife.. It will be hard but you'll get through it...
Sorry somtimes I'm just a softy....
I also know where the original poster is coming from. My 88 Royale did exactly what his did, cam bearing, I did catch it in time and we parked it, made payments on it for over a year while I saved for a rebuild. Been there and I hope he finds another Bonney thats solid this time

hehe...GM doesnt like the cars to last that long...thats why they went to plastic intakes hehe. Yeah that year run was REALLY good for getting brutal milage outta most cars, not just GM. My aunt and uncle have had a full sized Dodge custom van with everything, bed TV VCR you name it. I knew they had it for a few years but lost track of time I guess..its like a 90 or 91. My uncle commented to me that it might be time to get a newer van soon and opened the door, said" Look at the odometer and see if you think its time" HOLY COW!!! it had JUST clicked over to 400k!!!!! Of course its garaged every night and get its oil changed every 3k or so, whether it needs it or not LOL. but still....400k???
As for my bearing problem...it was spring when it happened, I like to tease my wife about it still...because she used to take off like she was launching from an aircraft carrier...I had even jokingly nicknamed our street the "USS Cedar" However looking back, I dont think it was her driving that spun that bearing, I think it was just its time. She does seem to drive more careful now..at least while I am looking
Yes I hope he finds a wonderful, good looking solid Bonney!
