Allmachtige is running the Superchip, I'm running the Jet Stage 2. Both chips are very similar. They firm up the shift points, and raise them slightly, also raising the redline. My chip (not sure about his) also removes the top speed limiter. Skip shifting is also an option for some chips......and more:
Basic requirements before chipping are usually the 180° thermostat, intake, and exhaust. My personal suggestion is to also add a tranny cooler. Most chips will also require you to run higher octane fuel, as well.

The ECM in the vehicle looks at various sensors such as manifold vacuum, coolant temperature, throttle position and RPM, it then processes this information and adjusts spark timing, air/fuel ratio and other parameter according to the tables stored in the JET Performance chip/module memory. By recalibrating these tables we are able to tune the engine for the maximum horsepower and torque under various driving conditions.
By installing the JET chip or module these extra increases in performance enhance drivability, towing capabilities, reduce ¼ miles times and provide improved overall efficiency.

JET Performance Chips offer the most horsepower available for your GM car or truck. Only JET performance chips provide exclusive full range DST programming of the air/fuel ratio, ignition advance, transmission and various other parameters. Each program is track and dyno tested to ensure the most possible horsepower from each application without effecting drivability or fuel economy.

well I think thats all the info I need right now. I am going to start by adding the tranny cooler then re-change the fluid. After that I plan to get my intake and exhaust. Then my coils and wires. After that maybe if I have the money I will get a chip. Hopefully I will be able to get everything done. I still have a front wheel bearing to replace, ARGGG!
Thanks so much for all the info!!!!
